Maheruh is a 2017 Indian comedy-drama film directed by Kunal Kohli. It stars Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher in the lead roles. The Hindi version was released in Overseas Indian Diaspora on 22 December 2017. Vijay Shekhar Sharma falls in love with Komal Sharma, they plan to marry after college. One day, Vijay receives a marriage proposal for his younger sister Pooja from Sunil Mittal's family. Pooja agrees for the marriage because her father was unable to fulfill her demand for a car. Pooja's marriage is fixed and the family needs a dowry of 30 Lakh rupees. Pooja's marriage day arrives, but Sunil's family does not show up. The entire Sharma family starts scolding Pooja for the delay, she decides to elope with Vijay. In a fit of anger, Vijay sets fire to the Sharma home and walks away from his responsibilities as an elder son. He leaves Komal with Sunil's family and burns all his belongings including bank documents and money. Vijay decides to go Mumbai to change his life for good. He lands in Mumbai and overcomes many challenges, including police encounter. He becomes a successful businessman and marries with Komal. His sister Pooja (Rajesh Sharma) grows up with Sunil's family and has a son named Jimmy, while his brother-in-law Murli Mittal (Anupam Kher) adopts them as his own children. Vijay visits Mumbai for Pooja's engagement ceremony to Anand Tiwari, who is the son of Murli Mittal's business partner. Vijay shows off his wealth in front of everyone to Sunny Malhotra (Ravi Kishen), the only person who knows Vijay's past. Vijay congratulates Murli Mittal and decides to take Pooja along with him to return, Murli refuses and Vijay threatens him by showing his wealth. The next day, Vijay goes to see Pooja and she agrees to go with him. He also wants Sunny to stay at their home and wants to marry Komal and Sunny's daughter Aarti (Mandira Borthakur).
